I think Pony Lady was enjoying the attention from her gang of alpha males. She had a touch of the Carnerios about her.

She lives in Woodford. Well, that's where she got off of the Tube last night.

I was tired grouchy and just wanted to sleep. It had been along day, the OB wouldn't let me on my earlier train and all I wanted was a shower and I had this aardvark stopping me snoozing by loudly claiming "Roy Hodgson hates West Ham, well he aint allowed to like us... for 3 fecking hours!! " rant over. Irons!!

Yeah I was on this train I had to sit behind some David Baddiel lookalike who kept on about how the ref had cheated us and that there is a FA conspiracy against us. Really wanted to put one on his ample nose.

Croe
Saying the train had been declassified was complete bullshit they were just saying that to try and get people on any old train. We were queuing for the 7.15 but they weren't letting anybody onto the platform but the 6.55 hadn't left and a fella behind us with his kid was saying he had a seat reserved on the 6.55 virgin staff told him that the 7.15 would be declassified so he could sit anywhere. When we got on the fella and his family sat at a table near us when the people got on who's seats he was sitting in he said that is was declassified they went and got a member of the origin staff and they told him he had to move they were rightly fuming.
Was a complete shambles

We were supposed to be on the 19:15 but got the 19:35 cos there was a copper there telling everyone that any ticket is valid on any train and all seat reservations had been cancelled. So we grabbed a burger king and easy got in the 18:35 after about 10mins queuing. Was standing room only when we got on but wasnt the end of the world.

When I was doing customer services for a train operating company we used to have a standard text for football supporters.

True story.

Every weekend there'd be trains being declassified and reservations cancelled etc cos no one had foreseen thousands of (often mostly pissed up) people wanting to get from one end of the country to another, often on already very busy routes.

Must cost the companies thousands if not millions in compo etc. every time it happens.

The only problem with letting people on from a second q to take the train to capacity is what about people that want to get on in between departure and London who might also have valid tickets.

Great Western manage Cheltenham by having a TWO queue systems, one for seat reservations who they let on first and then the number from the 2nd queue to take the train to capacity.

It can be done, Virgin choose not to.

Re: carnage gettng on the 8:20 train last night
I think the answer would be, one queue for people with seat reservations for that train, they get on first.

Another queue for those with open tickets, they get on next

A lady queue for those with tickets for earlier trains they've missed. For these the Old Bill / train company decide if or how many they take

Re: carnage gettng on the 8:20 train last night
I was in the 8.20 queue as we'd booked on that one with my two kids and their mate. The Police and Virgin didn't have a plan. There were plenty of West Ham without valid tickets trying to force their way through... But even the pissed up blokes and plod when they saw me and the kids all went "let then through they're kids" and we went straight through... So it was fine. Got on the train and there were people in our seats but they got up. Bit of a song song on the way back. The three kids thought the whole thing was a right laugh. There was a woman who had nothing to do with the football sitting amongst all the West Ham on the train and after she'd used the toilet got a chant of "went for a pony, has he just went for a pony"... Looked v embarrassed but to her credit she laughed it off... Having said that we ended up being on the same tube carriage from Euston and she didn't look happy.

D3 - was you in row 7 in the 2 seats on their own?

Re: carnage gettng on the 8:20 train last night
The other thing is that people are generally too pissed to think of an alternative route home. As Filings said below, jump any train stopping at Crewe and then get one going in to London which is half empty.

Re: carnage gettng on the 8:20 train last night
Croe, the only answer is to only sell a ticket for each seat on the train and not allow any standing.
I bet that you would still get people trying to force their way on, especially coming home.

Public transport in this country is generally over priced and shit. Add in wanting to travel to a match up north and it is fucking ridiculous.
